My husband was recently diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour. He is 49. He had surgery last month and is now having radiotherapy and chemotherapy. We know the prognosis isn't good and so having not been away for nearly 3 years we want to take our two boys (11 and 13) on a couple of special holidays this year that we already had planned, whilst we still can. In the summer and autumn he will still be having chemo but we could get away between cycles. The oncologist advised we should only go somewhere that has good health facilities in case he gets an infection (as his immune system will be compromised) and needs treatment or there is an issue with the tumour - but I'm not sure how to assess what is good and what isn't. We're booked to go to Corfu and Mauritius - is the healthcare there good enough?? Should I be looking at public or private hospitals? I am researching travel insurance and we will pay what is needed to get this for him but I don't want to go somewhere I am going to spend the whole week worrying about what will happen if he gets ill. Any advice on how to assess whether the necessary health care is available would be gratefully received. Many thanks.
