Hi can you reply for travel cost to hospital. I have stage 3a melanoma and having dabrafenib and trametinib. I have to have check ups. Most recently been going every week due to side effects and having thyroid scan for z nodule. Have to travel into London by train which I don't  mind as its a really good hospital. I was turned down last time but I'm now spending more on travel I also have a relative who comes with  for support. I do work a full time job but it's still extra money to pay out for. It's going to ongoing for 5 years or more as have to have scans even when treatment  has finished. Is there anything I can claim.

  • Hi

    We have a dedicated group of Welfare Rights Advisers who can check for any support you might be entitled to with your travel costs. They can check if you’re entitled to state benefits and can help to access other financial support, such as one-off grants to help with those travel costs.

    You can contact them on freephone 0808 808 0000 and they’re available weekdays 8am – 8pm and weekends 9am – 5pm. If you’d prefer you can also contact them via webchat here by selecting “Chat to us” and then the “Welfare Benefits & Grants” option.

    They will ask you for some financial details such as your household income, amount of any savings, cost of rent/mortgage, council tax and utilities just to see if any other help is available.

    Just to clarify, the Financial Guidance Service can provide information and guidance on all aspects of your personal finances to help you make informed decisions in the following areas;
