PIP

I have just been re-assessed for my PIP allowance.  This week I received a letter advising me that they have cut my allowance by half.  I find it incredible that at 65 years of age the DWP expect me to find a job (in my condition) and make up the short fall!  I have terminal lung cancer and although I can manage around the home, I don't drive and couldn't possibly walk to the nearest bus stop, The only time I leave home is for hospital appointments which I am totally reliant on my son to transport me.

Am I being treat unfairly?

Thanking you in anticipation

Kind Regards

Ella

  • Hi ,

Thanks for getting in touch. I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis and your difficulties with PIP.

As part of our Money and Work Team, we have a dedicated group of Welfare Rights Advisers. They can discuss the PIP decision but also check if you’re entitled to any other state benefits and can help to access other financial support, such as one-off grants. You can contact them on freephone 0808 808 0000 and they’re available weekdays 8am – 8pm and weekends 9am – 5pm. If you’d prefer you can also contact them via webchat here by selecting “Chat to us” and then the “Welfare Benefits & Grants” option.

They will ask you for some financial details such as household income, amount of any savings, cost of rent/mortgage, council tax and utilities just to see if any other help is available.

It’s worth mentioning that sometimes there may be a Welfare Rights Adviser based in the hospital that may be able to assist your mum. If you would like to find out what local support and information is available near you, please visit our website:
