Science or fact...dark varnish prevents nail loss

Does anyone know the science behind the use of black/dark varnish to prevent nail loss ? Works for some not others, why is this ?? Should i just paint them anyway just in case ?? thanks xx

Can anyone help.?

My mums receiving palliative care for lung and brain cancer, she's very poorly at home after first chemo, lost the use of her legs and very wobbly. My question is her legs feel very very cold, I'm scared of what this means, anyone know?
