Chapter 6

Less than one minute read time.

Ive just collected Joe from hospital, hes upstairs playing on his xbox and has eaten a KFC on the way home.  All seems so normal, so good and this makes what we have just been told by his surgeon so so difficult to comprehend.  We were told that the tumour was large but confined to the stomach wall and out of 18 lymphnodes removed only 2 were effected - so far so good - then he told us that whilst he was operating he noticed some suspicious areas the size of pinheads on Joes transverse colon.  He said these areas would not have been picked up on his scans because of their size and that all we can do is repeat chemo then watch and wait.  I am utterly devastated and so confused, this is so bloody unfair hes been through so much and has been so brave.

    Hi Zoe

So pleased to hear that Joe's surgery went so well, but what a bummer that these suspicious areas were found. As Johnboy has said, hopefully his next sessions of chemo will blast them into oblivion. I know it's no good saying 'don't worry', because that's what us mothers do. But do try and enjoy your Christmas and then face the chemo in the new year. Joe sounds a strong lad and he has age on his side, not to mention his surrogate mum and dads on here!!

    Hi,

Thank you Angela and Johnb for your support.  Histology is back and the surgeons suspicions were correct, it is more cancer.  He assures us he ablated what he could see but cannot be sure that there were not more even smaller areas.  We dont know if this was localised spread simply due to the position of the stomach lying on the transverse colon.  We will have to wait until the New Year and an oncology appointment to get a clearer idea of what this all means for Joe, I have no idea if this type of spread is treatable.  For now I must get through Christmas and have to believe that this is localised and that the surgeon was able to destroy all that was there.  Wishing you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.  Much love,
