the school run with wig

Less than one minute read time.

My hair has not gone yet, although there is a crawling sensation across the scalp which I suspect does not bode well.In any case I thought I'd test out the wig(long, reddish brown) on the school run.Of course I'm really bad with hair real or false so I just kind of plonked it on with a baseball cap on top. Most mums were really kind about it(the ones that knew). The ones that didn't know, and also the kids, clearly thought I'd gone mad(My normal hair is a mousy bob).In any case I'm glad that's done with and the next outing should be less of a drama!

Tomorrow second dose of FEC which will go straight into my central line.I don't know why I'm so worried about my central line.I keep thinking they've put it in wrong and the toxic stuff will shoot straight into my heart!

    Miki,

Well done on the wig run.  I paid £200 for mine and wore it twice :(  I have very thin babylike hair so to get a wig that was so thick......made me feel like a bobble head doll or if anyone is old enough to remember Chris Evans Friday night show - a massssssssssssssive head!  The salon thinned the wig as much as they could and cut a fringe in for me, otherwise it was quite close to my old style, it even had two different coloured high and lowlights in it.  Its really quite stunning and I often pat it when I see it in the wardrobe LOL

I only lost the front half of my head of hair through RT to the brain.  So I had to wear one of those nasty pairs of tight thingies over my hair under the wig - TRES itchy as Delboy would say !!

So I now own lots of hats and more recently I've progressed to wide fabric hairbands.

Good luck with your treatment and I am sure your central line is just fine (won't stop you worrying I know LOL).

    Love & Strength

  • Good for you! I had a wig many years ago but not because I had cancer. It was much better than my real hair and I always felt really glamorous - so much so my husband didn't recognise me!

    Good luck with your treatment.

    Best wishes,

i shaved mine and, wasnt planning to wear a wig, but the "wig lady" called me over and asked if i wanted on ... i had bought 2 the last time and never wore them, she said she had these new ones in that are fab, and FREE, i`d paid £300 last time, so i reluctantly agreed, and i have to say ... it is bloody marvelous, people who dont know me well and dont know i have started chemo again, are saying how much my hair is growing and how the colour and style suits me (its straight im normally curly), i had 2 compliments yesterday lol, they do feel strange at first, and you are scared they will blow off or something, but i drove home with the top down on the car on sturday and it didnt budge, my sis was with me in case it did ... ready to jump out and retrieve it if it did, can you imagine the sight of that lol!,

good luck ... and dont be afraid to go g.i. jane (bald)... i do.. weather permitting

COURAGE ... IS WHEN YOUR SCARED TO DEATH.... BUT YOU SADDLE UP ANYWAY

    Hi Miki,

I have had the same wig for the last three years since being diagnosed and as I have lost my hair twice It has had a lot of use. People think it is my real hair and although my hair has grown back, it is rather thin at the front so I still wear my wig when I go out.  I know some people prefer scarves or hats but it just makes me feel better to have a full head of hair. Really, it is whatever you are most comfortable with.

Best of luck with your treatment and the wig!

                        Take care and feel well,

                                          Love lizzie xx

I hardly ever wore my wig.  It was really hot, so I only kept it for having a night out.  The rest of the time I wore a bandana.  It was a bit of an ordeal the first time I went out with the bandana on, but once I realised that people were not staring at me I was fine.

One funny experience I had with the wig was at the local club on a night out and my husband put his arm around my shoulders.  The wig was quite long as my own hair was/is again. As my husband leaned over to speak to me his arm was dragging the wig with him and I had to hurriedly tell him what was happening and move as quickly as possible lol.

His face was more of a picture that anything.
