Taxol,anyone?

Less than one minute read time.

Hi there! So I've finished the four FECS, and what fun that was! Actually, it was totally bearable except for the pregnancy type nausea.Next they're going to hit me with Taxol, on a weekly basis for 12 weeks, anyone been through this?

I'm also going to get Herceptin concurrently.Actually I'm more worried about that cos of the heart risk.My hair is still not all gone. It's hanging on in there with some very fetching bald patches. It's too hot for the wig and I just wear a cap all the time with people asking why I've cut my hair!

All the best everyone!

I had FEC and Taxotere(which is probably similar to Taxol).  I found the FEC horrendous and I had 4 cycles of it.  I had 4 cycles of taxotere too but once every 3 weeks and found this to be alot easier than the FEC.  I felt as though I had flu for a few days with very achy legs and knees.  I still got the funny taste in my mouth but no nausea and slept a bit better with it too.  I had Herceptin alongside this and then continued it on its own after the 4 cycles of Tax.  I am also on Herceptin again now and have been for the past year.  My heart function has been monitored every 3 months and apart from some dips in results and breaks from treatment to help this I have suffered no ill effects from it.

Hi, I had Taxol weekly this time last year. The anti-emetics all worked well for me and I had no sickness or nausea. My hair did fall out but started to regrow before I'd finished the weekly doses. My fingernails also lifted and I lost a couple of toenails. The worst side effect was the peripheral neuropathy. Pins and needless then a numbness in my hands and feet. My finger tips and toes are still numb now but not painful. Keep an eye on this and if you do suffer with it make sure you mention it as it can be permanent. That makes it sound awful, it wasn't! The side effects did build up over the weeks but it was all managable.

On the plus side Taxol worked brilliantly for me and reduced my tumour sizes by about 70%.

I hope it all goes well for you.

Hi, I've just finished 4 EC too, and starting Taxol and Herceptin next month. My hair was v thick so the cold cap didn't work. Got lots of bald patches, so cut the rest off. I couldn't bear the daily squirrel tails my brush was producing. I'm clinging on to eyebrows and lashes. Not sure what to expect with this next lot. I struggle with fatigue but in the last week before each cycle I felt normal. So a bit apprehensive about weekly ones as you don't get as much time to bounce back!
