Wiggy

1 minute read time.

mums started her radiotherapy. They're zaping the tumours in her brain first of all, five days of zappage. Mums fine so far (think we're all more worried than she is!!) and has had no side effects yet.

The radiotherapisty person said she will definately lose her hair. He also said that she's to take control, shave it then go and get a wig before she has to watch it fall out gradually. Mum was totally dreading the hair loss.

Have to tell you though, we discovered a MOST AMAZING lady today. Her name is Sharon and she owns Mast Hair Piece in Paisley. I highly, highly recommend this lady. Not only is her stock great, she's just a really nice person. She talked mum through whats likely to happen with her hair and was really supportive, not just about the hair, but emotionally. So Sharon, if you're reading this, thanks.

So mum looks lovely! She's so chuffed with her new hair. She achieved a look on 40 minutes that she's been trying to achieve for the last 40 years, she has volume in her wig! She was so pleased she bought a second one too! So, cancer for mum does seem to have some benefits!

  • Good for her. Wigs these days are so good no one will know she has one on.

Have still got mine for bad hair days. Could not get over the price of shampoo and hairdressers after 12 months of being bald.

My hair came back thicker than ever and wavy.

My best wishes to your Mum on her treatment.

    Love

Wohooooooo to your Mum, I had RT to the brain and was lucky to not experience any side-effects other than the hairloss (which was devastating but is growing back now).

I hope this RT kicks the butts of those tumours of hers.  I had 33 sessions for my one tumour, concentrated in one area and 6 weeks after when the treatment "peaks" inside, my brain swelled up and I had to go on steroids.  Get your Mum or someone else ask the radiotherapists if there is a risk of this with her treatment.  If so, they might be able to prescibe steroids before it happens so you are ready (if she isn't already on them).

I know she is having only five sessions, but probably a lot stronger dose and possibly whole head?  In which case, Indie Chick is the expert on that!

I wish your Mum well with her treatment and will look out for updates.

The wig having volume was my biggest drawback, I have fine hair and couldn't get used to seeing so much hair on my head, even though the stylist thinned it out as much as she could!  Good on your Mum for finding the "perfect hair".
