There is a world wide shortage of BCG vaccine for instillation into the bladder. My next treatment due Thursday 19th July has been cancelled and my next check cystoscopy has been brought forward 3 months to monitor the status of my bladder. I am on the 6 month maintainance treatment.
I was informed over the telephone by my urology nurse but have not had anything in writing from my consultant or the hospital. I was aware that something was up when I broused through Addenbrooks urology website and was going to ask my nurse about it but now, of course, the appointment has been cancelled. It is apparently due to a factory closure and the only other factory cannot produce enough to compensate.
Is any official statement going to be made and an explanation how The Dept. of Health and the NHS are going to deal with this situation?
