NOT A GOOD DAY (graphic pics)

1 minute read time.

So having been to work yesterday and decided, and agreed with my boss, i am now taking loads of time off to get the leg better. i need to address the problem with the lymphoedema or it aint gonna get any better. And yesterday at work the wound got more painful as the day went on. last night i went to the walk in centre and they gave me a course of antibiotics and an appointment to go back today to see the nurse for dressings change.

as soon as i got in the room she said it was a stinky wound. after looking at it she said she would swap it urgently and get results asap. she was also going to have to disinfect the room after my appointment and let it stand for 30 minutes before anyone else went in there.

you can see from the first photo that the lymph fluid has mixed with the iodoflex and become a messy mass. she cleaned it up and irrigated it. very concerned with the bacteria she also did a prontosan soak. then she took a scapel and took off what appeared to be crystalised small lumps on the over granulation abd then debrided the whole thing. having done the swab she spread vaseline over the edges of the wound to preserve well healed skin. then applied the iodoflex and a wad of gauze. then the usual xupad, bandage and then a clean double layer of tubigrip. she asked me why i had a double layer of tubigrip on as my left and right legs and feet looked the same size now. i replied that that was exactly the reason why!

i have an appointment with her again if i need it monday otherwise an appointment with the plastic dressing clinic on tuesday where they are hoping to fit me eventually with a better compression bandage or appliance. then its no work, plenty of rest and getting the leg elevated. (some weight loss would help too!)

hope everyone gets something out of this blog

well Peter, at last you are going to rest.  I know its frustrating just sitting with your leg elevated but get your head in gear and do it - you have to move on with this predicament you are in and two legs are always better than one.  Enjoy bank holiday, get some serious reading in and switch off.  Ann

Hi Peter, so glad you have decided to take time off work to let your leg do some proper healing.  I had my op 6 weeks ago and have basically had it elevated for pretty much most of that time with only the occasional trip out!! Its been hard to just sit there but it has paid off  and I have had no pain.... Hope your leg calms down and you feel loads better soon
