I KNEW THIS WAS COMING...MAYBE NOW I SHOULD HEED THE WARNING!

Less than one minute read time.

Hi

just got back from plastic dressing clinic. Lead nurse saw me today and cards were laid on the table.

  • some areas healed around the edges of the wound but the rest has gross over-granulation throughout.
  • no infection today but possible high bio-burden in the wound
  • if the swelling in the leg is not controlled then the wound will not heal
  • compression with double tubigrip tried today and reasses tuesday and to only change if anything comes through to the tubrigrip
  • this will have some effect but not a lot and tuesday they will reasses short stretch bandaging or other methods
  • lymphoedema nurse consultant to suggest other appliances
  • have to elevate and rest the leg more
  • unwilling to treat wound with topical steroids at the moment due to unhealthy appearance of the over-granulation and high level of bacteria.
  • at the moment trying a period of Iodoflex
  • continue with prontosan soaks at every dressing change
  • the bad smell is the lymph fluid coming out the wound and is worse in this hotter weather

bit down as i thought things were getting better but i was obviously too ambitious about what i can do. hopefully a small set back

thanks for reading

Aw dont be too down this can all be rectified with plenty of rest and elevating your leg - i have done nothing but this for the past 5 weeks!!  I have the same wound as you and they use inadine dressings on mine then 2x k lite bandages and double tubigrip - worth a try as i have had no leakage or swelling either! Whats the possibility of a bit more time off work? I go another 5 weeks to go before I am going to go back to work as I want to make sure my leg is healed before I venture back to normality.

    Take Care

    Hello Peter,

Well, you know what you have to do - easier said than done if you are working - but you are not irreplaceable and if you need to do as you are told because you want healing - do so.  What a long journey ca. is, please do as you are told, you have so much more life in you yet! Ann

Sounds rough mate but I guess you just got to keep plugging away.  It seems I got lucky that my tumour was on my back (and that I had eaten a lot of pies over Xmas!).

It must be frustrating - I get bored very quickly when told to take it easy.

Good luck - hope you see some improvement soon.
