8TH MAY DRESSINGS AT HOME (GRAPHIC PICS)

Less than one minute read time.

Hi

Decided to try redressing the wound myself. Have to admit its nice when I go the hospital and they they pick off the sluff and afterwards its looks great. The picking of sluff and the slightly rougher exfoliating the nurses do are things I cant do myself. Therefore, unfortunately, it never looks as good and to be honest it looks more granulated than last wednesday.

Anyone else do their own similar dressings at home?

Have a good weekend, hope the westher gets a bit drier

The cavity is healing well Peter -  but make sure those bumpy pink bits aren't over granulation, - so whilst it is a good idea doing your own dressings you need professionals making sure everything is OK.

I never did my own dressings as such , - only when the dressing fell off then I re-dressed it,  but never did anything more than putting a new dressing on, - I left the cleaning etc to the nurses just in case I caused an infection.

Look after this now Peter, you have come a long way and you must make sure everything is right.

Sorry to sound like a mother - which is what I am, and perhaps a little bossy too.!!!!

    hi lynn

thanks for the message.... i am being careful. this last week was the first time i have done it myself for a whole week without going to the walk in centre at the hospital and letting the nurses do it. logistically and financially that was becoming a nightmare to get to and back etc. tomorrow i am back at the plastic dressing clinic and i am sure they will let me know if i am doing anything wrong or if i can continue. but i know the wound isnt going to heal unless it is dry and it wont happen unless the wound it re redressed daily,

the nurse at the walk in centre gave me a lesson in re dressing without infection and gave me gloves and a dressing tray kit and scissors and enough bandages to redress for at least a week. they are all district nurses and regularly teach patients how to do their own dressings.

and yes you are too bossy...! its bad enough having marsha on my back all the time .... oooh errr matron... so to speak!!!

    have a good night

hi chris thanks for the message...

glad i took all the photos of my leg since a week after surgery up to present... when i think its not healing i look back and remind myself how it was.. its not so bad but i cant wait for the pain and numbness to go so i can get back to normal. the worst feeling is the lumpiness in the groin from the SNB but everyone says thats normal so i am ignoring it as much as i can and hope it will go away.

    thansk for your comments
