2 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY

Less than one minute read time.

Good afternoon.

Just back from plastic dressings clinic. 2 and a half hours the appointment took.

  1. the wound was undressed. it was half full of brown fluid exudate crap stuff. The graft has pretty much come away at the top 3rd or more of the wound. It was all cleaned and dried up. More sluff removed and a random stitch removed. (anyone hear me scream?) The wound was then lined with BiataneAG, packed with gauze, then surgipad  and then toe-to-knee  bandaging. This was done with Actico short stretch bandage post doplar reading of 1.1
  2. The graft doner site dressing was removed. the practice site is all clear and just needs moisturising. The real doner site had the dressings off with about 25% still left on so covered with jelonet, gauze, mefix and tubigrip.
  3. It was decided that the lumpy groin was not bad enough to stick a needle to and risk infection. If the lump is tennis ball size then they would deal with it
  4. I have been asked to go back to the dressing clinic after seeing the consultant at the Melonoma clinic on Friday.

Don't worry about the loss of the graft Peter, after two/three weeks I had lost about 40% of it, - and was surprised that the area DID heal.  I am very interested to follow your case and see how quickly your leg begins to heal.

It used to worry me when they cleaned the cavity I thought they were dragging the skin out of it.

The "exude" or whatever it is called went on for a few weeks too.  I had to sleep on a protective sheet for a while as it was coming through the dressing.

thats what i like about all the comments... i now know whats normal and to get concerned with only whats not been experienced by others.

the nurses have said they think the cells underneath are good and it will grow fine, the graft would have speeded it up but isnt essential.

thank you everyone for your comments!
