1 WEEK 4 DAYS AFTER SURGERY

Less than one minute read time.

Just back from the dressing clinic. Sluff removed from inside wound and repacked with alternative to keltostat which seems to be liked by some nurses and hated by others. Todays nurse suggested the graft was nearer 80% than 90% but its hard to tell as the wound just fills up with fluid all the time. Goind back tomorrow. Hopefully i will get the same nurse, the most impressive so far. Isnt it strange how different nurses have different opinions?

Pain level after appointment is 7/10 but i dosed up with painkillers before the appointment and when i arrived home i took more. I am now on Diclofenic 50mg 2x a day and 1000mg Paracetomol 3 times a day in between or whenever needed.

Here are todays pics. 2 with sluff and 1 without.

Peter Although the wound still looks pretty dreadful(only to those who have never seen anything like this) you can see the difference between the photographs and healing is obviously taking place,.

I am amazed you are still in a lot of pain, - my leg was very sore, - and the cavity area very very tender, and I was terrified of knocking my leg .  Still am careful about it now three years on.

..... - what they did with mine at each appointment was gently clean the area with a sterile solution , then  pack the cavity with jelonet, - then a dressing over the top, then a thick padded dressing, then finally a stretchy bandage over the top.  After a couple of weeks the donor site was healing nicely except for one area next to the surgery site, and I think this was because it was kept covered by the dressing.  By the way the cavity did leak some yellowy liquid through the bandages for quite some time, and it was apparently ok. no infection at all.

I was amazed how the cavity filled gradually and finally it was covered in a sort of skin, - but not like the rest of my skin, - I still have a deepish cavity.

    Keep up the good work

    xxLynn

    hi lynn

    thanks for the message.....

the dressing method you described is how it was done yesterday instead of using keltostat. i will remember this and make sure all nurses do it this way in the future.

i am pretty good with pain usually so im not being a wimp and the painkillers bring it down to a minimum.

do you have a photo of your as it is now?

    have a good sunday

    peter

    xx
