wittering away

1 minute read time.

Had a  really good sleep again. Pain level in my back low on waking and  first getting up. Increased as time ticked on but good control with pain relief. It's a dangerous time, it is easy to forget in the moment when pain control is good that I have to  be careful, nearly got caught out  yesterday by going to bend to give the cat a scratch behind the ears.

I am still not where I should be with eating after the unexpected side swipe of hideous reflux last Friday but now I can eat at good med times it's just how much at any one time. So getting there.

Big thing of the day is the start of the new anti- depressant. It comes with a list of side effects, I am mostly scared of it making me sick or giving me squits or both. There are though potential additional benefits also used to treat chronic pain and stress incontinence both of those would be nice.

Mixed feelings, hopeful, feel this is good decision, scared for side effects. Always starting or restarting this type of meds, I have a rueful moment, I don't want to be here but here I go again, you know the drill Rowan, now get it down the hatch.

I have a good queue of audiobooks to listen to.When I am not stressed by to do things or upset by the situation and at better times of day/night I am in a good head space to do things that interest and entertain me. Have a catch up with people online. Over the last 2 months or so I have been going through family history again. The matriarchal Scottish side which is of most interest to me. Coming back to it now we are so familiar with areas where they have lived and worked has been really fun as well as going off on the side shoots. Not just the family one but the wider context of the times they live in.

I hope you have a good day for you.

  • It’s fascinating going through family history. I spent quite a lot of time researching mine during the 2020 lockdown. Some branches turn out to be utterly boring, others unearth surprises or confirm those passed down family rumours in surprising ways. I knew I had a great grandmother who had run away from her wealthier family to be with a “bit of rough”. I didn’t expect her father to be a wealthy ship owner or the “bit of rough” to be the son of a respectable school caretaker. But she got disowned and was penniless nevertheless. Hey ho.

  • Hi Coddfish, that's awful, I know that these things happened but not always and sometimes resolved over time so it is not like they couldn't have made a different choice.

One of our Presbyterian relatives married a divorced Catholic, at the time that was a big thing just one of those things would be a big deal.  I have no idea how it went down with the family.
