Medical cannabis on prescription

2 minute read time.

We have tried everything to get  on top of my persistent, grinding nausea and I am happy with the treatment I have with the NHS team and my GP. It does get relatively better over a cycle but is always there, part of life.

This is a complementary treatment  for me not a replacement for anything else.

My health care team know about my treatment plan . I have a well researched and known provider with free consults that I can book as I go along and have made the most of that. The prescriptions are paid for. Everything is very tailored for me over months. I am 'lucky' to be able to afford it, although my  savings are an inheritance so, well, not so lucky there

I am not promoting  this as a treatment for others or saying it will work , least of all because for others it doesn't work, so just talking about my experience.

Without this additional treatment I wouldn't be sitting quite comfortably writing this.

I am on low doses, I don't get stoned even though I am taking the active ingredient but I do take it in different routes.

I have oil under tongue, 4 x daily, this is my background control.  Then for break through nausea, a vape for flower, this is for when I want to be awake as it doesn't  make me drowsy or a cartridge oil vape for when I want to rest. 2 or four times a day, depending on the  type of day it is.

I can swap one for another so if I need more rest I can have the oil  vape or if I want to be more up I have the flower. It sounds a lot but again it isn't. When I say day I mean a 24 hour period.

Myself and my family are absolutely clear that this is medicinal not recreational but  yes, I will admit to we do find it funny that Nana is having a  cannabis vape at 8 in the morning. I am usually  up at 4ish so not first thing for me but still very early.

Less funny was when I was tripping after trying a prescribed treatment  at  8am, a rare side effect I know, trust me to have it ,but an example of one of  the problems I have had. ( This was way before the cannabis).

It's taken a while to get this right for me. Once my confidence grew and I knew it was helpful for me in this area. I learned what the timelines and predictably of doses are and how to tag- team with my other meds.  I have also got to notice it is useful in other areas  and how I can tie it into my day without extra doses but trying to game timings. Things like day time sleeping is a better quality with the cartridge and actually a shorter duration for that, so easier getting up again. Great to offset travel sickness. I have to travel a fair way  for some appointments.

It is not a magic bullet  or a cure-all  but it  has  a significant effect on the quality of my life.

I hope I have done ok in this blog post. I have tried to keep in mind  the issues around this and  given context. I hope that I have been clear that I am doing this off the back of good quality research, legally and with lots of safe guards in place.
