My husband has recently been diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer. this was picked up during his two yearly scan because he has a condition called A Barretts's Oesophagus. In March of this year, they took four biopsies and one was found to be suspicious, which led to other tests to find out more. He then had a P.E.T. scan, an Endoscopic Ultrasound and Keyhole surgery. He has a T2 tumour in the Oesophagus. He also has Parkinson's disease and Chronic arthritis. These last two conditions, according to his surgeon, render him unsuitable for the Major surgery needed for a re-construction of the Oesophagus. Because of the inability to move around and leads a pretty sedate lifestyle, his surgeon thinks that the operation would be too risky. So, three cycles of Chemo, followed by five weeks, of Mon to Fri, of Radiotherapy.
We do have a Macmillan nurse assigned to us, who has been very good at answering any queries we might have.
We have a meeting with an Oncologist next week, and have been told to expect the treatment to start the week after that.
We are unsure as to what would be the right questions to ask the Oncologist.
My husband have been married for nearly 34 years. He is 73 years old, and I am 66 years old. We are both retired.
