Fantastic Care!

Less than one minute read time.

I knew fantastic care was possible! Yesterday i had some more tissue removed from breast to obtain clear margins and i had it done in one of the trusts other hospitals and the differance was amazing!

I had my 1st op in Dewsbury DH (not good) and yesterday i was in Pontefract GI (excellent).

They could not have done more for me, nothing was too much trouble or treated like an inconveniance and was asked over and over if i was feeling ok.

Its makes all the differance to have good care and gives you a boost when you are treated like a person rather then a number and restores your faith in the NHS. Just wish id had my 1st op here. I shall be sending a letter of appreciation as people are quick to complain but often forget to praise for excellence.

Take care all

  • Glad it went well and you are right to give praise where it is due. There is a group on this site that 'rates' hospitals, perhaps you should add your comments on there too.

    Best wishes,

    Hi

I commented on your original post re care in hospital. I also was practically turfed out two days after mastectomy and lymph node clearance and its only now reading this post that I see we were both in same Hospital for original op! I was given a choice of Ponte or Dewsbury but chose Dewsbury as it was the earliest date and closer to home.

So glad your second experience was better though sorry you needed further op!

Wishing you well in your recovery

i was in st johns hosptial in livingston just 5 minutes away from me for both my lumpectomy and mastectomy 2 weeks later.

i was really worried as my dad had gone there with breathing problems <lung cancer, spread to neck> he sat in a and e for over an hour before getting seen then ended up in a corridor where he was left in a wheel chair as there were no beds on the ward! while in wheelchair he had "an accident" and was then all of a sudden seen too! he was eventually put on a surgical ward and left in a side room on his own, no tv or anyone to chat to. i went in every day found him with no pj bottoms or underwear on and ended up putting his morphine patch on every three days as the staff told me just to get on with it! i believe they helped my dad on his way, as he died a week later!

when i went in, i was not looking forward to it, but the day ward i was on for my lumpectomy was fab, staff were lovely and chatty and made me feel at ease. told one of them about my dad and couldnt believe that she agreed with me about that ward <shock>

the next time i was on the plastic surgery ward, again staff were fantastic, food was great! it has given me faith in my local hospital again!

macmillan nurses at the hospital are fabulous too, nothing is too much trouble, i can phone anytime i need a chat! they have told me off for googling things though, lol!

when your feeling pretty bad/stuck on a ward and thinking about whats going to happen in the future, the nurses having a laugh with you makes the time go by a bit quicker and takes your mind off things.

omg, i am rambling! well seen i cant drive yet and am stuck in a little village with nothing to do! sorry everyone ;D

    stay positive

    love to all

    <should i put my name to this??>

    Hey Kate

Glad the 2nd op went well and you were satisfied with the care this time round. You are right in that it does make all the difference. Great news that you will get to italy before chemo starts too. Result!! Take care hun xx
