What next?

Less than one minute read time.

My mum was diagnosed with colon cancer 3 weeks ago. The surgeon recommended she have an op. The problem is, she has already had 2 tumours removed from her colon and lost 50% of her colon. Faced with the prospect of a 3rd op, she is refusing to have any treatment. I am wondering what to do next. Try and talk her round? Wait for the disease to run its course? Try and get a Macmillan nurse involved? I'm wondering how long it will take before the cancer spreads. What will happen if she doesn't have any treatment?

    hi

why dont you ask the consultant what he thinks.it must be your mums who decides what she wants. I can understand how she feels as i had a relative who refused treatment. It must be a horrible thing to have to decide. Find out what will happen if she doesnt have treatment. and take it from there. take care jm

    Hello

First I would like to say how sorry I am that your poor mum is going through this, and you too. My mum and Dad passed away with bowel cancer, mum passed a long time ago but she refused more treatment after she had been through surgery. Mum had a colostomy but never came to terms with it, she even refused to look at it..it was just so sad. Please understand I know lots of people who cope well with their colostomies and remain well.. A year after her op she refused more surgery. Sadly nothing any of us said would change her mind. Looking back after all the years and losing my family to cancer I now understand her decision.

I think it wouldn`t do any harm to ask to talk to your mums macmillan nurse and her consultant..they may be able to help.

My mum lived for another year after refusing her 2nd operation.

I am thinking of you in this awful situation..I wish you and your mum strength to get through this.

    Lots of love scarlet x

Hi Cat, sorry to hear about your poor mumbut i'll tell you a wee story and see if it helps I was diagnosed with bowel cancer or polyps as they were call in 2006  I had a major op to remove half the colon and thought that wasit but after a colonoscopy in 2008 they found more so another big op to completely remove large bowel. I now have a permenent stoma bag and you do get used to it. im 74 and getting around quite well.

My older sister had bowel cancer 2 month after her 70th birthday  They couldnt operate as it had spread to other organs she died six month later.

Tell your mum  or show her this blog  if they think they can operate then she has a good chance of survival.

Hope this is of help to you

    bets wishes
