In May 2015 I was diagnosed with the AML form of leukemia. I had no symptoms, apart from a headache. As a result, ans without any notice, I then spent most of the next 5 months in Basingstoke hospital, mostly in an isolation room due to my neutropenic state.
During my stay, mainly to keep my sanity while in isolation, I kept a daily blog on my own existing blog website. Almost every day I wrote about my AML experiences of 3 consecutive intensive chemotherapy courses.
I almost lost my battle ending up in intensive care as a result of a serious infection, but thanks to the quick reaction nursing staff I survived that.
Then there was the appendicitis, something best avoided when you have no immune system.
If I didn't need more bad luck, my wife Simmi was then also diagnosed with breast cancer in August. She wanted to keep it a secret at first, but obviously could not.
Due to the work that I do, and thanks to the NHS internet and my laptop I never missed a days work, trying to keep everything as normal as the situation would allow.
My blog does not go into the medical details, but it does explore what I experienced, both funny and serious during my first 5 months of leukemia, and continuing...
I'm happy to share my daily blog on on my personal blog at www.lesplayer.com
