Meso

Less than one minute read time.

Hi

My husband has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, his left lung is affected he had a drain fitted , which drained off the fluid ,breathing improved a bit then fluid filled up around right lung , that was drained , Inbetween time got an infection from drain has now been in hospital for nearly 6 weeks give or take a couple of days at home, his breathing seemed to get worse after having biopsies taken. We are not in a hospital that treats cancer only in a respirity ward , has any one else had these problems , and how do I get him moved to specialist cancer unit that dosent have a waiting list, he has an appointment with an oncologist next Friday .

    Morning Sharnie

So sorry to see you joining us here and reading about your husband being diagnosed with Meso :(

To add to Ronnie's excellent suggestion about you joining the Mesothelioma Group just click text link. There is also a very active Carers Group you should join to get some practical and emotional support for yourself from other carers at this tough time.

If he has an appointment with the Oncologist on Friday it would be better to wait until then, if an oncologist is onboard he may well be shortly starting radiotherapy or chemotherapy, so it would be a bit of an upheaval to move him now just as his treatment regime is going to be put in place.

You could also have a look at the extensive Information Page About Mesothelioma which includes details about claiming benefits or compensation for those with Meso, which in some cases are fairly straightforward. Regular members of the Meso Group will be able to answer any questions you have. Just create a New Discussion when you join those groups and post an introduction and ask away, we're all here to help where we can.

Hope this is of some help at a tough time, good luck with the oncology appointment.

    Take care, G n' J
