Well, some delays in his treatment (usually REALLY annoying) meant that Daniel did not have to spend Christmas day in hospital :) So thank goodness my surprises didn't come off!
And hopefully he's coming to the end of his stretch of treatment. His final planned chemo session finished at the end of January and he should be starting radio in the next couple of days which will last about 2.5 weeks. Then it'll be time to see if it's worked. God, I'm so nervous for him.
And bless him he also had to do a stretch in his local hospital last week due to neutrophenic sepsis. Really nasty, but I guess it won't surprise any of you that have been following by now to hear that he got through it with a smile and never complained about anything, but 'being a bit tired'.
So, here's my new plan (I'm so full of great plans that rarely come off all the time :) ). When Daniel was first diagnosed, he and Evie were saving to go away travelling. That's obviously been postponed for a while now. Initially I planned to try and fundraise for them so that they could go on their dream trip when he finished his treatment. However, it proved problematic because at the time you couldn't really fundraise for personal causes, only registered charities. Also, Evie was worried that following his treatment he wouldn't be up to the trip they had planned and thought perhaps it might be better to go for a lesser amount for a little holiday somewhere.
So like many of my great plans, it fell by the wayside. However, now that he's about to come to the end of his treatment again, I'm considering re-envoking it. There's a new thing now called crowd funding, which I think is essentially fundraising for personal causes so it might be possible through that. There are two kinks in my plan though, that I'd love some help with if anyone is reading! Firstly, crowd funding is largely fuelled by social media (like most things!). Daniel and Evie are both connected to me on social media so how would I go about doing it as a surprise? And secondly, I'm not sure what 'cause' to go for. I'll have to state one for the crowd funding. Evie may still feel the same as she did back then, that their travelling trip will be too much right now? Alternatively, Daniel (love his soul) has actually just managed to pass his driving test amongst all this! So maybe a new car as a treat for him?
Somehow the travelling trip seems like a more worthy cause since that was their life dream that they had to really give up on for a while due to his condition. And they've not been able to save anything during this time because of what it's done to them financially, so they'll be starting from scratch with it whenever Daniel becomes really well. But if it's not appropriate for now, would you donate to treat such an awesome guy in this way? Or is asking for money for a new car just a bit cheeky?
