So Daniel re-started his chemo on Monday. This time around he's opted to take part in a clinical trial, as it means he'll get a lot more monitoring. He researched the different arms of chemo that were available on the trial and he wasn't overly opposed to any of them, so it seemed like the best option for him. He was lucky in that he was given the arm of chemo he was hoping for too.
Hopefully, he's only going to need 4 rounds. Each session is lasting a week and then he's back in again two weeks after it finishes. Sadly, this means that if his treatments run to schedule - he's going to be in hospital having chemo on Christmas Day.
He was really upset when he found out (and it takes a lot to upset Daniel) but true to himself, he's come around. He told me that there'll be other people in having treatment that day too, so he was going to make it his mission to make them happy on the day. Doesn't he just break your heart?
His chemo finishes on Boxing Day and he plans to have his own Christmas Day on the 27th, but a) he'll probably still be feeling really crappy and b) it's not really Christmas is it?
So I've been desperately trying to think of ways that I might make his Christmas just that little bit less awful. Evie is going to spend the day with him there, as she said she'd not enjoy herself anywhere else knowing he was in, but the hospital have never given her anything to eat - so I wondered about getting a local restaurant that's serving Christmas Dinner anyway to deliver them some on the day so that they might at least have a nice Christmas Dinner together. I've e-mailed a couple, but no reply as yet.
I also found out that 'Elf the Musical' is about to start at the Dominican Theatre. Daniel LOVES the film 'Elf' so I started to fantasize that maybe a couple of cast members might visit in costume and bring him a little exert of the show. I've messaged the lead 'Buddy the Elf' on facebook . . . I REALLY hope he gets back to me . . . .
If he doesn't . . . any other ideas? What can I do to make this Christmas special?
