A christmas surprise we didn't want!

Less than one minute read time.

Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly seven years ago, she went for her first mammogram having just turned 50. Lymph nodes removed, lump removed then chemo and radiotherapy followed. The cancer was a hormonal type and was caught early enough that mum kept her breasts. That time as a family was awfull but as we do we helped mum through it with all our might. Fast forward 6 years and the fight is back on.

    Evening Tee75,

So sorry to read about your mum getting diagnosed with breast secondaries.

That is the fear anyone who 'had' breast cancer' has concerns about.  It's something that crosses your mind every now and again when you get a new twinge but you always hope to get away with it :(

You don't mention where mum's secondary is but there will be specific information about it on the Macmillan site somewhere, if you can mention it in a reply we can let you know more.  There will probably be other members in the group mentioned below with similar secondaries who can give you experienced help.

There are a couple of groups here you may find helpful for advice and support.

One is the Breast Secondary Group and the other is the Carers Group if you are helping in a caring role.

Hope this is of some help and best wishes to your mum having to go through this again.

    Take care, G n' J

    Hi dreamthief,

Mums secondary is between her chest wall and her lung...not in the actual lung. X

    Hi Tee,

So this is in the tissue or skin between her chest wall and lungs rather than the ribs ?

She may well be offered a different chemo than she had before, I'm unsure about any further radiotherapy as there are guidelines as to how much radiation you can have and you mentioned she already had Rads before.

Seeing as it was the hormonal type you would have hoped the years of tablets she probably had for that type would have helped keep this at bay :(

There is an info page about secondary breast cancer here, but it doesn't give you the experienced answers you would get from those also going through this. So do check out the group mentioned above to get some advice.

    Hello

Mum had pain in her ribs that's how they found the tumour...she was only off the tablets for a year then it came back...now she is back on the tablets again and waiting for her lung to be drained...tumour is producing fluid...
