Monday 7 August 2017 was the date when I had the "mass" removed from my neck. What a delightful term "mass" is...I remember being in recovery and seeing it in a specimen jar about to be sent of to the path lab. Lovely. I'll spare you the details though.
The following day, when I saw the surgeon, I asked him what he thought. "Lets be honest," I said, "It's not benign is it?" Good old rhetorical questions. He smiled and said, "I don't think so...but we'll know next week." It was quite odd because I actually felt pretty sanguine about matters. I had already made peace (not sure if that's quite the right expression) with the fact that I was likely to be given some pretty crap news. Little did I know that the "mass" was in fact the secondary spread of something a little bit nasty.
Watch this space for next week's instalment when I get the news...yep, that news we really don't want to hear!
