It is 6am and I am writing this because the pain in my operation site woke me.
I had a laser resection of the right side of my tongue 6 days ago and things are actually worse now. Before the operation I had no real symptoms, just some small whitish patches on the side of my tongue. I have had lichen planus on and off for years but my dentist thought these were different. Biopsy confirmed an early SCC.
No I know it is less than a week since my surgery, but each day it seems to be worse in terms of symptoms. I have pain, somewhat controlled by analgesics, a foul taste and significant exudate over the operation site, difficulty with eating and swallowing and the worse bit is my speech. I have trouble understanding myself and so does everyone else. I should be counting myself as lucky, because we may have caught this early, but actually I feel 100% worse than I did before the operation and that is not good.
My wife has been wonderfully supportive, and I know that it is early days. Everything I read suggests that things will improve. I am just impatient.
