Not just about the pink!!

Less than one minute read time.

Having had a quick browse through the Macmillan website today I've seen numerous blog posts from the Macmillan admin team about breast cancer awareness month.

October is also liver cancer awareness month but there seems to be no mention of that at all on here.

Why is that Macmillan?

    Hi Sel45,

Thank-you for getting in touch and for highlighting this.

It looks like Liver Cancer Awareness Month is an American awareness month. As a UK-based charity, we try to keep the focus on awareness days and months marked here.

If you're looking to connect with others, we have a Liver cancer forum (Group) group you can join to talk to members affected by a similar diagnosis. We also have nurses and expert volunteers you can post questions to in our Ask an Expert (Group) section. We're also planning themed months for our Ask an Expert section for the future, to raise awareness around certain types of cancer.

If you've got any questions, please send these to community@macmillan.org.uk as I'm happy to help.

    Best wishes,

Hello Jazmine. Thank you for your response.

As a liver cancer patient in the U.K. we do use October as liver cancer awareness month the same as the USA.

I guess as liver cancer isn't as 'popular as breast cancer it doesn't get the recognition that breast cancer does.

Btw Breast cancer awareness month is an American import. Didn't stop Macmillan jumping on that bandwagon though did it?

    Hi Sel45,

Thanks for your response. I’m sorry you feel that we haven’t prioritised liver cancer as important as breast cancer. Our nurses on the community will answer questions about all types of cancer and for this past month we decided to hold a specialist section as have several expert volunteers that happen to work in breast cancer care.

We have dedicated liver cancer and secondary liver cancer groups on the community where you can connect with others affected by this time of cancer.

We have a section of the site you can make a complaint - making a complaint - where you can give some more information about this if you wish to do so. We welcome all kinds of feedback so we can continue to improve people lives when they have been affected by cancer.
