So, this is where it gets interesting.
I thought I had this cancer thing in the bag after getting a complete response on my midway PET scan. My haematologist reduced my ABVD regimen to AVD and it looked like things were going well. 11th September was my last infusion date and I remember (kind of, thanks Ativan) leaving the hospital feeling elated.
It was a bit of a shock when the end of treatment PET showed uptake of SUV 3.7 in the chest mass that had previously scanned clean. The doctor thought it was the mass dying off and so did the radiographer, but a second radiologist opinion was that it was sufficiently doubtful to warrant radiation. Being in my mediastinum it would be invasive to biopsy, so nuking it would be safer.
I have an appointment next Tuesday to find out all about radiation and hopefully will be able to grill the radiologist a bit further. Let’s hope it’s dying tissue. Please let’s hope so.
