Chemo 2 - Second attempt 250917

1 minute read time.

Back in hospital as an outpatient. 9am blood tests taken.  Good news the nurse says we can go ahead. A few minutes later the oncologist comes in to say that my liver levels are a bit high so he's only giving me a half dose of the first drug. The next two drugs go through and everything seems to be fine. I've even eaten the lovely packed lunch that my friend Miranda has made for me. The nurse hooks up the 4th drug which comes with its own pump and takes 24 hours. I was preparing to go home but when I started to speak I sounded like I had inhaled helium! The nurse didn't seem overly concerned but I was. Eventually she went away and got another nurse who then called my oncologist. He said that I had to be admitted to hospital overnight as a precaution. It seems that this is a rare side effect of one of the drugs. My voice returned to normal after an hour but they insisted I stay in hospital anyway. Another side effect is pins and needles in my fingers. Washing my hands seems to bring it on and it doesn't matter if it's warm or cold water. Anyone else out there who has experienced this?  My oncologist has said that I will have my next chemo session as an inpatient and he'll take an extra day over it. Still, two down and two to go.

Hair loss is now speeding up.  I have a lot of hair so it's taking a while. It's quite distressing to see all the hair on your pillow or hairbrush. Getting a wig tomorrow. Might go blonde just for the hell of it!

Be Brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be!
