080118 - One month post-op Pathology Report

1 minute read time.

It is exactly one month since I lost 80% of my stomach. I've had little blips along the way with eating but usually because I over indulged!

Had my post-op follow up appointment with the surgeon today and he says that I am healing well. He asked about exercise and I told him that I tried to walk a little each day.  He suggested cycling, although it's not the weather for it. I never thought that stomach removal would improve my cycling proficiency. Lol.

Anyway, the pathology report showed that the tumour was T4 and not T2 as the clinical staging had suggested. It seems that it is very difficult to stage Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma as it doesn't show up well in scans. At least the tumour is gone now.

The report showed that 0 of the 51 lymph nodes that they examined tested positive which is a huge relief. Both the surgeon and the oncologist were very pleased with that. The surgeon said that he has requested a detailed report on the analysis of the lymph nodes as he wants to know if they were completely clear i.e. they never had cancer cells or if they had been affected but the chemo had zapped them.

One other thing written in the report was that the tumour had not responded well to chemo but both doctors said it clearly had.

I am feeling quite relieved after today's consultations.

I will have four more FLOT sessions at two week intervals starting on 23rd January but it will be a lighter dose this time at only 65% strength.

Here's hoping I can see off this blighter!
