Fun and Fundraising

I made it!

I managed to do everything I wanted to while in London, and pushed mysef as hard as possible - to the point of tears a couple of times - and nothing was ruined or missed out because of me! It was so lovely to be with my friend and her awesome kids for a whole week. I used to live right around the corner from them, so popped in or went out with them regularly. But I'm now a 4 hour or more drive away from them, so maybe see them once a year. So a whole week together was amazing. There were a couple of times when I had to disappear to my room and lie down, because the pain was just too much. But otherwise, I was able to grin and bear it.

Getting home was a good thing, but also a bad thing. Yes, I was back to comfortable seating and bed. Yes I was back to my cats. But I was once more alone, no-one to talk to or have a laugh with - and I was in pain, and the comfy seat/bed just wasn't cutting it as I'd pushed so hard. So it was a little of a bittersweet homecoming. Since getting home, I've basically slept. lol. I can spend a few hours awake, but then the eyes droop and there's no stopping it. I have to sleep. Everything feels leaden and heavy, and I feel absolutely exhausted and drained. BUT - it was well worth it, and I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

Now, anyone reading the blog for a while, might remember a post I did about doing a big coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan. Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not physically able to do the big 3 days of solid baking that's needed to stock the coffee morning like I did last time. BUT, I've come up with an idea.

I'm going to doa year long cake auction. So maybe once a week I'll suggest a cake on the FB page I've set up, set a day for when it will be ready to collect, and then set an auction going. Soanyone following the page will be able to bid on the cake if they fancy it, and then all the profit will go towards Macmillan and all they do. People can also make requests if they have something in particular that they'd like for a special date. And I've set up a Just Giving page for anyone not in my local area, sothey can give a little something to help if they like. So right now there's a Gluten free, Dairy Free, Chocolate Orange cake up for auction and I think the last bid on it was £15. Then I've also got a request for a couple of traybakes for the opera company I made the hats for. Oh, and someone has donated to the Just Giving page from America. So it all looks quite positive.

Last time I did a coffee morning, I raised a bit over £800. So this time I'm aiming for £1500. Might be a little ambitious, but got to have something to aim and strive for right! Fingers crossed, and we'll see how it goes.

Is anyone else doing any fundraising for anything at all? Let me know!

  • That sounds like a great idea!

Yes, I'm planning an archery event at the end of September. It's had a wobble, as I changed clubs (political reasons), but my old club had offered to put it on for me. Just need to say yes or no.

Hope you're slowly getting back on your feet, your week in London sounds totally hectic!!!

    Hugs xx
