Before April 2013 cancer networks up and down the country worked hard to make sure that Cancer was a disease fought hard against.
Some people would pass away and some would live. Whatever the outcome networks tried to make sure the journey was always improving. They did not always make the right decisions and networks were not all the same. There could be vast differences.
After April these networks were to close to move towards the new strategic clinical networks complete with senate. We were promised that public user engagement would be sought. I question how much this will happen. So far there has been limited contact with users in my area. The old user groups were told by the local SCN that they would be contacted in October. As an old member I know this has not really happened. Our local hospitals have struggled to meet user requirements in peer review. Like all changes the course was never expected to be smooth but I do hope communication is fully opened soon.
My user group is currently running independently and still has processes to ask for changes through contact with Healthwatch. I can only hope that we do not experience immediate high profile risks that take a long time too resolve.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
