prosthesis

1 minute read time.
Had hopital apt, monday to be fitted with my prosthesis, (my new booby as my grandson calls it), didn't expect it to be as heavy, breast nurse said I will get used to it, bit like a new pair of shoes, when you first get them, you cant wait to take them off after a while. Anyway put it on yesterday to give it the first proper outing, but my wound felt really sore after a while, is this normal?? Also I seem to be feeling really tired all the time and a bit down, I shouldn't I'm very fortunate to what others are going through) feel like kicking myself for feeling so sorry for myself. Anyway we booked a weekend away with our friends to go to manchester shopping this weekend so need energy to spend some of hubbys money. Booked into a lovely hotel, my friend is really looking forward to using the leisure facilities, said I should say 'sod it' and just go in the pool regardless of the fact ive only got one breast, if other people are embarresed then its tough, well I will wait and see if ive got the bottle to go in, could do with a good laugh and the shopping fix. Also got an apt on monday with genetics to see if I carry faulty gene for breast cancer as my sister has also had it TWICE, and dont want my daughters to go through this crap, lso 1st radiotherpy next friday, so onward and upwards, that my moan for the day, SORRY

They are heavy aren't they compared to the softie they give you.  Am I right in thinking you had your mastectomy recently?  I have to admit I had a number of seroma's after surgery on 2 Oct 08 so didn't get my silicone barbie until early Dec, by which time I had healed.  I tried one style but I couldn;t get on with it so went back and my lovely breast care nurse fitted a different style.  Its been OK, well as OK as a false boob can be.  Sometimes if my chest feels tight or if I am doing heavier jobs which involve leaning forward or reaching I wear my softie instead.

I agree with your friend about swimming but its easier said than done isn't it. I am going to get a light weight prosthetic for swimming.

I think its normal to feel tired at times adn a little down, you have been through a lot and it takes time to adjust.  Have a fantastic weekend, hope you enjoy it.

    Take care
