help and advise

Less than one minute read time.

Hello, I need help in understanding the side effects of radiotherapy given to a person who has had cancer in their neck.  I am a carer, my husband has cancer in one of the lymph node at the base of the neck on the left side.

He was first diagonised with cancer in April 2007, at that time it was found in lymph nodes in the chest and was treated with chemotherrapy and radiotherapy.  He recovered well after the first treatment, but his cancer returned this April.

Since July he has had extensive course of chemotherapy and the node has shrunk, but he still has to have radiotherapy and chemotherapy at the beginning of January 2010.

    Hi Vasanti,

Well my friend I might just be the person that might ease the worry.

I had a full larnygectomy 11 yrs ago and had 6 lymph nodes removed as well. I underwent 6 weeks of radiotherapy it literally burns away the cancer, yes it takes along time but the side effects are not too bad extreme tiredness and Redness around the area where they consentrate the Radiotherapy, they will supply you with a certain cream to help the itchiness. That was along time ago and it seems to have worked for me. So the people who on this site would only be too delighted to Help in anyway they can. A better bunch of people you will ever meet.

Take Care and be Safe Regards Sarsfield.xx

My sister has just completed Radio for cancer in the lymph by the neck. Tucked in by collarbone & close to neck. Apart from looking like she has had bad sunburn on the shoulder area she has coped quite well. Can't hide the fact it is sore and she finds it hard to wear clothes next to it - she has managed quite well (25 sessions). What she found tiring was the waiting around as they often booked evreybody en-masse so she lost a couple of hours some days. You have an aqueuos cream to apply to help with the soreness.
