Sucking Lemons

Less than one minute read time.
So, hubby escaped hospital at 5am. We were at home by 5:15am having freshly made juice, toast/Manuka honey. All has gone very well indeed. Lunch on the patio.... half hour mid afternoon nap (mainly because he had not slept at all the previous night)... dinner & even wine! Seems too good to be true. During dinner, he started hiccupping. It's now 9pm and he hasn't stopped. A quick trawl on the internet and lo and behold Cisplatin (one of his chemo drugs) can cause (mainly in men) hiccups during the 24 hours post chemo. Apart from taking more drugs to combat the "spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm", one of the easier solutions offered was to suck fresh lemons. Luckily we had grilled salmon for dinner .... seems to have worked! T x

  • I get them after my r-chop and they last for 2 to 3 days and an episode can last upto 2hrs, consultant said a drug was available to stop them, its an anti psyhcotic drug though.

Biggest laugh was he could not give it to me as I was on my limit for toxic drugs with treatment and other meds I am on, so its hiccup away.

    enjoy your good days.

    Hello Trishka,

I am so pleased that you are happy with your husband's treatment.

I think that 'our boats' are similar. Where we live and our husbands' diagnosis' but I guess the similarity ends there. We are not so fortunate and are still waiting for the Meeting of the Medical Team in Liverpool, but that's the NHS.

All good wishes and continued success with your husband's treatment.

    Tricia. X

Hi Tricia, yes, it seemed to take ages. We had a go at our Consultant (Mr U......) Then we put something in writing to him - he kept saying that this was part of the process and we argued back that by delaying the chemo, they were responsible for any tumour growth. We just kept bugging him...

    Hope you hear soon...

    very best wishes
