Roller Coaster

1 minute read time.
Here we are at the beginning of week 3 of Chemo. I suppose generally everything is going great. We had a bit of a dip this weekend as everything hubby ate went straight through his system. I stopped juicing.... He's just not good at being ill probably because he's hardly been ill in his life. The past couple of days started off ok but then everytime he had a meal he developed cramps in his stomach (no nausea) and so although he had a good appetite he was put off eating as he knew he was going to suffer. He did spend the best part of 2 days in the loo... I had a bit of success in getting him out in the fresh air yesterday (made more difficult because of desire to be near a loo). It was raining a little bit but still warm - anyway, we decided to go out and get a video and on the way we passed the Italian ice-cream parlour. I asked him did he want to go to the furniture shop to look at some stuff. "NO" came the answer but we could go get ice-cream. My tactics worked... We watched F1 today (hubby even wore his new Jenson cap) and then had roast beef & yorkshire pud for lunch as a special treat. Guess what - not a single cramp today! It is such a roller-coaster of a ride. This coming week is the week-off chemo - yeh. Hubby does have an appointment with Oncologist but I expect this is to check that he's still able to cope. Amazingly, he's still working ... I'm sitting here writing this and he's busy doing some 'report'... he's an absolute workaholic and to be honest for the first time in our married life I'm happy that he is... T x

    Hey Triska!!

Just got back on site after 12 days and read your blog.  I too was watching Formula 1 today with my man, but from the hospital TV room here in Bavaria!!!  Amazing man you have still working, but I do really think they need to keep things as normal as possible for their own sanity (yours sounds like the Alpha Male that mine is).  Keep strong and keep writing, I think it really helps to share it off your chest!!!!  My man getting stronger 11 days post-op though seeing an ENT specialist tom as may have damaged his voice box during the op (awkward body meant awkward op) - think cross between Darth Vadar and Stephen Hawkins (thats what he may have to get used to talking with!).  Anyways, good to hear you man is feeling more comfortable in the 'digestion' stakes - mine currently has that to contend with every day!!!

Hang on in there. There will be rough days but just think of your goal and how brilliantly you are doing at the moment. I think abstaining from the juice was a good plan - I have also heard that five or six smaller meals can help if the problem comes back again. I'm sure you're right about the working - it's good to keep your mind busy and engaged throughout - it must create a more positive outlook. Enjoy your chemo free week. ;-) T x
