Pre Chemo Cycle 2

1 minute read time.
... a visit to the Oncologist. We were also told that full bloods & liver function tests were required before Monday's 2nd chemo cycle so we did the blood clinic on Thurs too. It was quite funny because Oncology Ward had told us to ignore any queues and ticket numbering at the Blood Clinic and go straight to the desk (they don't want you spending any time anywhere near 'sick' folk.) We went into the blood clinic and there had to be about 20 others waiting very patiently - all holding their ticket number. We went straight to the front desk (hubby feeling very uncomfortable about this...) and, of course, he was taken straight in - I felt 20 daggers in my back! Next appointment was with the Pharmicist.. nice lady called Carol who wanted to know how the first session went and whether or not hubby needed any kind of medication for the side-effects. Well, he hasn't really had any (side effects) but we decided to get some Immodium just in case he spent another couple of days in the loo post Chemo. She asked lots of questions about pee - how much, how often, how coloured...etc. She was very happy to hear that he was 'voiding' much less often and in much more quantity. She said this was because the tumour was getting smaller - can't tell you how happy we were to hear this (because of the lack of side-effects, I was beginning to wander whether or not the chemo was working.....) In the event, we and the Oncologist decided it was not necessary to meet. We went out to dinner tonight with friends - it was a totally normal evening - no-one would have a single clue that hubby has just completed the first cycle of chemo. Cycle 2 starts on Monday and he has to spend the night in hospital - I know the chemo has a cumulative effect so expecting that next week might be a bit harder. Day at a time though... I can only cope with a day at a time..... We know that we have wonderful family and lots of friends out there and we can't thank you all enough for your love and support.. T x

Hey Triska - So sooooo happy for you and your man that Chemo No. 1 produced very little in the way of side effects.  I have read some really scary bits re side-effects and it is lovely to hear of someone who has not experienced the worst that Chemo can offer.  Really good luck with session no. 2 - lets hope its a repeat performance! Julie xxx  p.s thanks for the mail to my man, was really sweet of you.
