Travel insurance

Less than one minute read time.

I am in remission from melanoma and my husband is in remission from Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. We would love to go on a cruise next year but fear it will be too expensive as P & O insist on cover for pre existing conditions. Any advice would be very helpful.

Macmillan have some info on travel insurance here http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Cancerinformation/Livingwithandaftercancer/Practicalissues/Travel/Companies.aspx  I've found Insurance With good, though there are lots of companies that can cover people with pre-existing conditions.

Don't assume you can't get cover - will depend on your individual circumstances, and I know it can be stressful to phone round companies, but that's the only way to find out.  I got insurance after a different blood cancer and it cost under £10 extra for a short European break - so it can be done!

Hi, I have just secured travel insurance for my dad (who has a terminal diagnosis) through www.insurancewith.com although I rang a great deal of other companies beforehand, with lots of rejections or clauses to adhere to.

They have agreed to fully cover my dad for his pre-existing conditions (including a terminal diagnosis) for £115.90, and after triple checking the terms and conditions, it seems we have a fantastic deal.  They do not require anything other than an agreement (verbal) between my dad and his consultant to say he is happy for my dad to travel.

I had a few other quotes ranging from (£1500 from www.goodtogoinsurance.com, and a specialist insurance firm who deal directly with the hospital/consultant www.pulse-insurance.co.uk who said the cost would be around £600-£700)

Be prepared to ring around - be prepared for companies to reject you BUT it can be done!

So good luck, I hope you get sorted out and eventually enjoy the holiday you so deserve!

Hi, there was a recent question on this elsewhere. Try Euro Tunnel. They seem to be competitive.

Hi I did a P&O cruise last Sept, had Just finished my treatment In June. I never told P&O and took out a standard policy as I was only travelling to Europe and off the ship most days and would have been covered under the E1 11.

It Is a chance you take, however I am a manager In a travel agency and have seen time and time again people paying more for the Ins than they do on the holiday. I do have to stress that It Is a chance you take, however I have done It and worked for me as have thousands of others.

Having said that, think next time Im going to try Billybookends company as this seems a fantastic quote and very fair. If It works, I will reccommend to all my clients.
