Slow But Sure

Less than one minute read time.
Not much seems to be happening from a hospital front, I have had an email saying they received the blood from my sister and are getting it tested but that is as far as progress has gone. I have another appointment next week so maybe I will find out more then. I also have a normal clinic appointment next week; I will only have been back on the drugs for 3 weeks by then so am not expecting any surprises in the blood counts but maybe they will have the results of my last PCR. Things at work at getting a bit manic, the bosses are just beginning to cotton on to the fact that I won't be around for 6 months! I'm just looking forward to spending some quality time in my garden and topping up the tan; heres hoping we have a good summer. More later

    Hi Trog,

Good luck. Hope your sister is a match. How long will you have to be in hospital? Don't they have to keep you in isolation for a while after a transplant?

People keep mentioning PCRs. What does PCR stand for? All I hear about are molecular tests. I wasn't sure what it meant at first and once I asked the doc how my molecules were. He thought I was being terribly witty so I didn't disillusion him!

    Thanks Shelagh

Hopefully I will only be in hospital for about 4 weeks, part of that time is spent in semi isolation however I should still be allowed visitors just not unhealthy ones or children.

PCR is a 'polymerase chain reaction' test where they look for the BCR/ABL protein; the bit that has gone wrong in CML patients. It is a very sensitive test and the results are shown as a percentage, those that have a good response should end up with PCR values of 0.0x%. I on the other hand get results between 32% and 50+% hence the transplant option.
