Been having treatment for advanced localised prostate cancer for the last eighteen months
Been transferred back from Oncology to Urology were it was original diagnosed. Saw the Urology Registrar today and it was very clear that he had not read through my notes and he assumed that I had come to the end of hormone therapy at the end of my radiotherapy treatment.
When I was having R/T I assumed that this would be case and checked that I should cease injections with the Oncologist who was supervising my treatment and she was insistent that I should I should carry on with the hormone therapy for another three years as a precaution against the cancer coming back.
The reasoning behind this was that my cancer was not particular aggressive but had grown to such an extent that it was verge of spreading. At one stage the Oncologist thought the cancer had spread to my back passage. My PSA was only 22.4, T3 and a Gleason 7.0. Physically the prostate was completely a mass of cancer cells and very knobbly and the problem was only discovered by pure chance when I saw my GP about a problem I was having with by back passage and I asked during its examination to check the prostate
Technically the treatment of my cancer has been very good, but common with other people it is so difficult to get any real answers from the specialists. The real problem with the hospital that I have been attending is there is so little co-ordination between departments. I have two other long tearm problems which have specific problems regards treatment of my cancer which both the Urologist and Oncologist are unaware of until I told them which have treated by the same hospital
