The end

2 minute read time.

May 3, 2024

A postscript is text added at the end of a book or other document, in this case the blog. It’s so long that by the time you finish it, you’re too exhausted to read the postscript so I’ve put it at the beginning.

Time to say goodbye and a huge thank you to Dr Banner for fixing me.

Five and a half years! I have tried very hard to make sure that time wasn’t wasted in worrying about what I couldn’t control. It would have been such a terrible waste but at times it was difficult, particularly early on. He reminded me, (and wasn’t that a light scolding too ?) of what a miserable git I was at the start. How thorough of him to remember Wink He was very pleased with how I have healed and put a lot of that down to doing what he and his team told me to do; seemingly many people don’t. I got another tour round my throat. No tonsils, puny shrivelled uvula and quite a bit of loss of the back of my tongue and the muscles there, tissues peppered with telangiectasia which is actually quite pretty Slight smile Swallowing is perfectly ok. I’m left with reduced saliva at night and I still pop in a xylimelt before I go to bed but I can cope with that. The muscles at the back of my neck on the treatment side are a little hard and painful if I stop exercising them. Radiation fibrosis. I can cope with that one too. The RT has damaged some hearing but nothing that can’t be mitigated with a hugely expensive hearing aid that I should get on the NHS. So all in all I emerge from hibernation relatively intact and pretty pleased with myself.

I’m pretty pleased I won’t have to watch this door creak open again, either, or ring this newly installed bell ……..which I didn’t……. Spot the aberrant apostrophe, by the way. Is ITS a contraction or a possession?

POST POSTCRIPT (The oscars speech bit)

Maxfac and Oncology sorted me out…..the whole team. Sharon Kincaid, my ever patient CNS. The radiographers who listened to all my gripes daily when I got into trouble, the Speech and Language team and the Dieticians who checked me every week, made me do my exercises and eat and my wonderful husband, Stan, who looked after me, kicked me when I had to be kicked, and gave me space when I needed it. I will actually miss them…not Stan, he’s still here.

POST POST POSTSCRIPT

FOR GOD’S SAKE GET YOUR YOUNGSTERS VACCINATED WITH GARDISIL SO THEY DON’T GET THE CANCER I DID.

Ring this bell, Three times well, Its toll will clearly say, “My treatments are done, This course has run, And now I’m on my way,”
