Post 553: The pills must be working a bit…

After days where I’ve been trying to feel the difference daily of the pain I’m in I can safely say that over the week the pain has definitely dropped. I put it down to the pills Duloxatine and I’m glad and confident this will continue.

But I am so tired and that’s my fault for not getting enough sleep at night and only dozing through the day.

I’ve become a bad sleeper because I can and that I’m free to use the nighttime to write and think.

Perhaps my topsy-turvy world is helping me navigate the ways to a better place.

By better place I do mean a healthier happier place where I’m still unremarkable but that I have a less confined world.

I had a two hour call in the morning with my mum that didn’t give birth to me who’s off with her partner to Tenerife after the weekend and wanted a catch up. It’s always surprising how the time spins away when talking to her.

Her grandchildren are keeping her busy with preparations for Christmas and we’ve already noticed our unborn baby grandson is taking up space in our minds now and that he has already made such a positive impact to our family lives.

The video chat came while the cleaner was downstairs and my Darling and I were trying our best not to fall out of my (single hospital) bed, ha ha; it was a good job it was tested and approved last week by a Millbrook service guy. We had a right laugh on the call and before long the cleaner was finished and gone leaving us to the dusted rooms and freshly washed floors; all ready for the cat to mess up with his dirty feet.

My Darling got ready for a nail-bar trip to town with a great friend of hers so I’ll be left to munch on a lunch and head to work for the last time in two weeks.

So I was watching the tv downstairs getting crumbs down my bath-robe, cos that’s what it looks like, it’s a soft fluffy dark-grey long coat that’s as warm as toast and so snuggly, but it has its drawbacks. The worst problem is that because it’s so warm and cozy it’s very easy to relax in and today I’d fallen asleep and was under the spell of some lovey dream when my wrist shook with the iWatch I was wearing with a last chance alarm for work…

Oops!

I woke and sleepily looked at the time on the iWatch and panicked.

The next 10 minutes saw me rushing in slow-motion with all the speed I could muster, which wasn’t much at all obviously as I’m like a slug on gravel most times I’m imagining I’m rushing about like a hare, ha ha, but I got out the door and in the car and because there was no school this week the roads were clear for my drive to work. I reached the office in plenty of time as it happened but inside I felt I was late such is my normally early arrival at my desk.

Phew! That was lucky.

I got a text and a phone call at work and one was to say that Big Sis is not coming to see me tomorrow. She’s got plenty to do at home and needs to crack on, good on her, she’ll be missed but I can sleep watching tv instead ha ha. The call was from the Hospice Doctor that was checking up on my new drug Duloxetine and whether I can cope with its side effects. I said there is no side effects except a better constitution. This said he asked if I’d doubled the dose yet and I told him the pharmacist told me to wait, he replied that I shouldn’t wait because this is for pain relief not anxiety and it’s time to check out how it is on a slightly bigger 60mg dosage. He convinced me and tomorrow’s dosette box will be at the new double-dose.

I wonder if this will get me rid of the pain?

If it does, will that mean that I don’t need the Radium 223?

Talking of the Radium treatment, I’ve been thinking about nothing else for the last week since the oncology meeting we had. The thing is that our son and his fiancé, with baby bump showing very proudly, were with us for my Darlings birthday treat; a meal out at the curry house in town.

It was there I could satisfy my one niggling question which was, do you baby’s mum and dad apreciate the facts about the Radium treatment I’m thinking about having when it comes to the safety side of the radiation, namely the 7 days I’d have to wait before getting near the baby after the radioactive infusion?

Mum to be said that she would mill it over with some research of her own but if that’s ok by NHS GB then it’s ok by her (and he).

This is wonderful news and now completes the questions I had and now only need the answer back from mum to be’s research and I’m done.

But… do I now wait for the pills to work their magic and if they are enough to get rid of the back pain why should I bother with the Radium?

I will judge that one in two weeks time when there’s a reasonable time for the Duloxatine to work on my body.

The back pain was ok today and maybe better than yesterday, certainly not worse, so the curry meal should have been comfortable, but it wasn’t. I was in sitting pain on my shoulders. It’s strange because I didn’t get the same problem with the Bob’s yesterday so I don’t know what was up with me or the chair. The food and company was tip-top and a happy foursome plus1 was full up and satisfied by the spicy fare on the table. Yum yum. My Pathia was beautiful and the mint ice cream a wonderful pud that cleaned my mouth and slipped down a treat.

Take care and don’t doze in front of the tv without an alarm, if needed!

Good night day

  • Pleased the new pills are working for you and hopefully the increased dose will be even better. Good news that your family are in agreement about the Radium treatment if you choose to opt for it. Have a good day.
