Post 515: Too much for me at the writing club.
A new printing cartridge and a new folder had me busy making an other 50 hard copies of the blog: binder 6, blogs 250-299.
I’m getting there as I’m over half way through and I’m happy that this will be useful in time. But until then I’m happy to transpose these digital blog post to hard copy. It’s a worthwhile use of my resources and somehow makes me feel useful.
For the second week running my Darling has used the slow-cooker for a stew and this week it’s the turn of steak and tatties so each time I went downstairs the lovely smell hit me and made me feel hungry. I guess today’s sunshine and heat into the twenties was not the ideal day for the stewing steak stew but I wasn’t complaining.
By 12:30 I had finished the printing and headed downstairs for some home-made tomato soup my Darling made in bulk the other day and this was all I needed for lunch. Slurp slurp and a clean bowl was produced in no time at all and before I sat down for a bit of k-drama I had set myself the task of copying into my U3a book the recent short story - the journey, the same one I added to the blog yesterday.
I then had an hour and a bit before my Darling came home and I couldn’t then scoot off to the writing club.
When my Darling came in she was so tired she looked ill. She will not learn, she’s recovered from the calf tear now but the tree days in a row of intense cleaning take it out of her now.
She stood in front of me and held out her arms and said I’m going up to bed, have fun at the club.
I stood and hugged her and thought of how much weight she had lost as my long arms wrapped her up in my warmth.
She murmured something as I let her go and she headed for the stairs.
She was asleep before I had got inside the car as she was so darn tired, but I forgot that Mr Vicious was inside and would very soon be pestering my Darling to have a dinner that would not be given for hours yet.
Mr V was ejected and my darling got her sleep, eventually.
I took myself away to the club just halfway around the block, and parked in the ample disabled parking lanes and went into the reception area only for the second time to sign myself in and sat down awaiting the other members of the club.
Within five minutes we were all off in the lift up to the hired room where we hired the space with its ample amenities.
After introductions I was last to read my story and after the other four ladies had done what I thought was a much better job than I, I read my - journey.
I was happily reading from my printed page and would have completed it had I not been unfurled with tears as the words made me feel inadequately able to continue so the lady to my left picked up the baton and read what was left to read.
When done it was time for a break naturally, and the ladies helped each other a me to a refreshment hot drink and either a gingerbread cookie laden with chocolate buttons or a vanilla cup cake (or both, who cares) and one by one day back down.
I was comforted by the care of the ladies and thanked them well as the club meeting ground to a halt while the home made produce was eaten in between sips of hot coffee.
Afterwards we did play a game of word associations as we went around the table thinking and saying whatever words came into our heads as the connections flowed in a curious and sometimes funny way.
This was all we had time for this week but I found myself integrated into this group that were today, looking after me and as I was the only male (this week) I was finally becoming part of the club.
It’s only a bit of fun to while away the time and get you thinking but I enjoyed the time had today.
I returned to the hot-pot and it’s wondrous smells as I scooped out not one but eventually two descent bowls of the stew to fill me to the brim.
Later my Darling came downstairs but after a couple of hours inside while the darkness fell outside, we had a great time watching the tv quietly while we unwound and enjoyed telling the tales of the day to each other, while the tv continued to ease our busy minds.
The days are drawing in faster now and the season is certainly changing. I’d like to go and look for a fungi. Not today though, I’m too tired. They’ll have to wait.
For the first time we both got up and sleepily went to our beds in unison. Perhaps tomorrow our bodies will be replenished and we can be together stronger and make plans for the rest of the week.
Take care and sleep well.
