Post 514: Two kids a dog and a bump.

I couldn’t carry on with my office work at home this morning for two reasons and the best reason was that I wanted to rest.

It’s something when you actually want to do something but a health problem stops you but I’m not able to stifle the neck and back pain even with all the medicine I take. Yes, I think that because the pills I take are in three main bulk swallows during the day (at 8am, 2 & 8pm). There is a problem where the morning pills are going to take a while to get working before I’m able to walk around agreeably, probably in a couple of hours.

The pills are never going to be able to cope on the bad days and I should compensate with a swig of oramorph (or two) to give my body the giddy-up.

That said the pain I’ve got just comes straight back and bothers me to the extent that today I’d rather not have driven to our dinner date at our son and fiancées down by the sea; but I did stay in bed all morning.

But that was later and I had, as I mentioned earlier, a bit of homework to think about.

This blog has made me think about writing a book and to assist in bookkeeping and my making a hard-copy, I have already bought a new printer and with the help of number one son who lives up in Cumbria and who’s wife is this week going through her first few radiotherapy appointments to kill off the lymphoma at an early stage from her leg… But as they’re miles away I’ll have to brave it and not only support myself in my quest to print more of my blog output but also deal with my pain.

While I wanted to get on and print more of the blog musings I also wanted to print out the story I wrote for me to give up to the teacher Monday at the U3a creative group meeting but I firstly had to await a certain happy smiling delivery firm that is going to supply the ink cartridges; then I can get cracking.

The ink cartridges arrived at our door not long after my Darling arrived back from work and while she was showering. This meant that any printing would have to wait till tomorrow because we were off to see number two son and his even more pregnant fiancée as soon as the shower could let us.

Once the shower was done and my Darling ready to go, I jumped into the car to drive the 3/4hrs to their place on the beach.

I have to say that my eye was irritating as much as my back but as I have put the wheels into motion about my right eyes blurriness I get from time to time, I’ll just have to wait for any action due in a timely fashion from Boots or the GP’s.

When we got to the beach and parked up outside their home we were greeted by the huge and wonderful lurcher Byron whose tail wagged his whole body into a front door dance only he could dance. It was not “strictly”. His mouth was also showing us how badly he wanted us to get in and see his best smile, with us being only occasional visitors, we were elated.

Our youngest said that we were honoured not to have been barked at; no, we were honoured to have the waggy tailed excited woofer to greet us; we were thrilled and as happy to see him too.

But oh what a sight we were also greeted with in the shape of a very healthy and happy if a little tired, pregnant mummy with her belly now showing as only a mummy to-be can.

Oh how this made us feel so good.

To be part of the new life in that belly was and is the very best feeling and trumps any other feelings we have about anything. Gone were the pains when we hugged her and her boy-bump.

The memories that have now come back at the sight of this wonder are of our younger days and the two babies we had, my Darling had, we had.

At the hug of that belly we were transported back thirty years to when we were feathering our nest for our first baby. Happy days, but also scary and beauty too.

Today, like back then, lots of gifting and regifting was done by similar mums that had lots to impart by way of advice and gear and boy are our two squirrels - collecting plenty of stuff for the baby to be.

There’s talk about playgroups and clothing stacks, the prams and foodstuffs, all in a days work to coax the most help out of all their friends and family.

Been there done that was thought not said as we were treated to a listing of what’s got and what’s needed. Crikey the list went on and on. Where will they put it all? That’s the question.

Three months to go and the only issue so far is low iron in mummy, so she needs a few Guinness’s to fortify her that’s all, ha ha.

The curry that we had ordered for delivery was soon spread over the kitchen diner table and for a while our gnashers were munching and our voices were extinguished, for a while while we ate.

And long after the diner as the light was stolen away by the evening my back was the only thing that stopped our lovely interlude of family fun there on the beach, and sadly I had to get home for some extra pain relief.

I just can’t sit all afternoon without a bit of pain, but on the flip side it was the most fabulous afternoon too.

The printing up of the blog will take all week or more if the cartridges don’t last. Then I’ll have the full 500 blog entries in folders in hard copy, if anyone should want to read them at some time in the future. Which is more a historical thing than anything else now.

But there it is.

We had a lovely day with two kids a dog and a bump.

Sleep well and take care

  • "We had a lovely day with two kids a dog and a bump"

That says it all - I hope you all have a great week and your daughter in law's radiotherapy goes to plan with little or no side effects.

  • Sorry to hear you were in pain, but glad you had a lovely day. I think your daughter in law will be having her treatment at the same hospital where I had my radiotherapy. Everyone in the department was kind and professional, I hope it goes smoothly for her. Have a good week Mr U.

  • Glad you had a lovely day , take care both of you xx

  • A nice day overall, you'll be eagerly anticipating the impending delivery in three months or so.

I hope your back improves this week, your daughter-in-law's treatment is trouble free and, most importantly, successful.

    Happy printing.
