Post 504: Getting back on the bus?

It’s only today I realised about how little I’ve spent thinking or mentioning the bus, of this blog.

The whole reason to start this blog was to spread the situation I was in to all my family and friends and let the daily thoughts out and about on this fab MacMillan site.

The bus was really the chemo and the treatments I could, or couldn’t go along with.

When I look into the bin holding the shucks of all the pharmaceutical drug blister packs I’ve emptied in a week it makes me look and feel like a junkie.

As for jumping on or off the bus, there’s a real decision on my part to avoid at all cost another chemo failure and to that end I’m currently misleadingly you if I don’t fess up to refusing my consultants questions about another period of chemotherapy.

Both she and I have regularly agreed to leave it in the folder of possible drugs on the table but not ones I want to take. That’s why it’s more important for her to have my agreement on the 6 monthly acid treatment that starts next week (Zoledronic Acid).

I say next week because I had a call to arrange a blood test two days before the first acid infusion (next Friday).

As usual this is a challenge I have to live up to; booking a blood test etc.

So on to Anima I went to ask my surgery for a speedy blood test appointment in less than a week…

It came up trumps and I’m all set for the two appointments next week, now.

So as you see I’m on a different bus, a bus that could give me side effects I’d rather not have and are worrying.

Especially the necrosis of my jaw.

That doesn’t sound great does it.

Necrosis, cell death, in this case is due to any tooth to jaw failings that this acid infusion could cause a real problem.

In my case I’ve had the official dental check this week to confirm that I’m in a reasonably fit state in my gob, which helps me and the day surgery clinic in it’s due care for allowing this acid infusion to go ahead.

So I’m back on the bus next week. Time will tell if that is something I can continue or endure, but it’s meant to be helpful to my bones.

At least I’m not refusing all that’s possible to help me out.

The bone scan I had recently and which led to the consultation last week had been less than helpful but in a way it was enough information to suggest that nothing much bad was happening. That said the acid infusion was a trade off from chemo and I liked that.

The PSA hasn’t been checked nor will it matter much any more. The last test was humongous at 1268 so there’s no reason to ever consider that as anything but a background familiarity. It high but we are not counting, it’s too big to worry about. It can stay high and I don’t care.

So by using the information I have to check my state of health, I’m doing ok.

The prescription list gets longer by the month and that seems fine, the drugs are working together. If the drugs I’m on can live and work helpfully with the acid infusion I can realise a steady healthy period going forward.

That’s what everyone hopes.

So although I haven’t spoken about the busses lately I’m well aware that they are there and will be used in emergencies perhaps, but I’m ok right now.

In other news I sat and watched tv while my ‘man of gas’ worked his charms on our heating system which passed his expert eye with flying colours, again.

This is truly fantastic and allows a relaxing year before another check is required. I hope I’m able to sit and watch tv next year too (I intend to).

Afterwards I went to work but not before my Darling got back from cardiovascular tests from her lovely attentive surgery for the first of many tests she might have to get a handle on her heart health. So although there are no real results yet there should be soon enough.

But as I said I went to work and got a bit of a problem for the first time, on spreadsheets. Damn. I was nearly finished for the day and I had to leave it hanging.

I’ll get one of my kids, or dr Google’s help before I go back on Tuesday. It’s simple enough and I don’t know why my experience couldn’t help fix it in the first place. Double damn.

But I was done by time and had to go home so I swung into the car as usual and settled in my seat ready to go. I leaned to the left to the central console for radio controls and veiled my neck. Treble damn!

Boy that hurt.

It was dreadful all the way home and even after my Darling had applied an ibuprofen gel on my upper back and neck it was still very sensitive.

As I write in bed I’m more happy and comfortable, so I hope by the morning I will be much better.

Was it my seating position at the computer or that last minute frustration over a simple problem that wouldn’t solve itself.

Who knows? I just hope it’s gone soon; just like the eye problem in my right eye, which is better today for no apparent reason. Ha ha.

In reply to the comments about Autumnal coolness and heaters on, we aren’t there yet down south for the more hardy. It’s different for the ailing and I know only too well how cold I get while my Darling feels hot and bothered.

She’s getting a little tattoo tomorrow after the café while I’ll be trying to catch Big Sis down the garden centre for a coffee and bun. My gurgling tummy still worries me yet I’m not in the loo right now thank to lord. I’ll survive a bun surely.

Happy Friday everyone, I hope this spells out the busses and what I’m choosing to do with my remaining choices.

I’m happy to be as strong as I am.

Take care

Sleep well.
