Post 479: All dressed up and nowhere to go.

I was ready for the discussion group this afternoon and even went and found the venue in the middle of an estate that would have rather not have given up its location to be honest, but then not be open when I got there was such a disappointment. There must have been a problem the cancelled today’s meeting, but unknown to me.

I returned to my Darling soon after I left and explained the situation then chose a film and got on with watching the serial version of the classic story “The day of the Jackal”.

It, the Jackal, has been advertised on the subscription channels “now” and is a very good drama even though it’s separated into long episodes.

We had a plateful of lamb tonight which was a roast dinner promised yesterday but because of the belly fullness we had a light dinner instead. I am enjoying the huge choice of foods on menus at home or away but a liver and bacon is still the top of the stack for taste.
After today’s rack of lamb and all the trimmings, I was supposed to have an ice cream, which I gladly found in the door of the freezer. The problem was that it was about half as long as it should have been. It must have minted somewhere between the manufacturer and home and was more like a chock-ice with a tiny wooden stick. In fact it was not the pleasurable eating experience I’d wanted and felt diddled by the whole situation. I guess there’s another two like it in the door of the freezer and I’ll have to eat them, both. Very unsatisfactory. So unsatisfactory.

Yesterday we did have a loose plan to go to Pooh bridge and go for a walk but didn’t.
We sat and watched the tv instead.

I had an “I told you so” moment last week, but it was my idea. Ah well someone’s gotta win while someone looses. It’s the way of the world. But this was a great bit of help to us both so we both win.

I bought some package fillers, you know the ones. The bits and bobs that you use to fill out the order to get free delivery. It’s now £35 of unmentionables that’s needed now and I added to the one thing you want to buy that drives me mad. I won’t buy prime and make it a next day deal every time. But whatever, I needed a potato masher and some more folders for blog (hard copy) content, but, I had no pp9 batteries and I wondered if that was all that was needed in the upstairs and downstairs remotes to drive the stair-lift up-down remotely. So I ordered them, as fillers.
The package arrived and batteries fell out. They are the most awkward things to get out of the wrapper but when they did jump out and land on the floor for appraisal. I popped them into the empty remote hand-sets and hey presto the remotes worked and the chair on the wall commeth and goeth away.
I don’t know how long my darling has needed this little thing working but now it is. It’s such a simple thing and it’s all my fault for not buying new batteries sooner.
Ah well. We live and learn.

Another morning with a clear blue sky and rather than the threat it’s now official, we in Sussex are in the mouth of a drought. Our hosepipe ban has been in effect for a month already but yesterday the big news story was that most of the uk was in drought like conditions. 50% of England is now affected and July was the driest month on record ever.
What does that mean?
I don’t really know. It could be that help is on its way quicker if we have a fire, I guess. But I wouldn’t count on it.

For me this is the best summer ever and there’s nothing that can make it better, except more sun.
Our son says he loves the 20 degrees it is up in the borders most days this year, and when he comes down on Wednesday he’ll get shock with the heat.

He and Kay are down for the meal to celebrate my Mums life. It comes at a time when we all are happy to see her ashes are in her own mums grave and now they are in the best place.

The meal will be the end of the celebrations and by then we all will have had our fill.

It’s also a year since Kev died in Colorado in the US and the grave stone has been made and is ready for installing on his grave. My Darling won’t go over to the homeland without me so will not go to celebrate his life and times. This is hard on her but it’s her own choice and she is happy with her decision. I have caused this situation with my inability to be comfortable travelling.
Perhaps I should reimagine my needs and wishes and figure out a better plan for travelling abroad.
Food for thought.

That’s it for now.

Take care
