Post 417: First Day Back at Work

I have been purposely avoiding any chatter about the dreaded time it takes me to get through the admin surrounding my new issue with worsening AFib.

It remains to be seen how AFib will affect my life, especially as the episodes are still only happening every two weeks.

Obviously, the heart episode that caused my medication to be altered is one thing, but the notifications to my GP, Oncology team, and Cardiology department—which I’ve already done, with varying degrees of success—will probably need to be reviewed by all concerned.

The prescriptions are especially awkward, but if I haven’t seen some action in a few days, I’ll need to chase things up with another doctor’s appointment.

And now for the good news.

I had my first “day” back at work today.

It was only two hours, but that was enough to give me a really bad back. I think I just need to sort out my chair at the workstation and I’ll be fine.

I was introduced to my desk and its array of three computer screens arranged in an arc around me. It’s very cool.

The work I’ve been given involves copying old tool lists and program sheets, and I’ll certainly be well able for that.

As of today, I’m a worker again.

Bliss.

But I see a problem on the horizon, Captain.

I’ve noticed my Darling is feeling down.

This is obviously a normal effect of being away from her over the weekend, and because we couldn’t go together to visit our eldest son and his wife, as well as our wonderful friends who live up north in Wigton. That was a big disappointment for her.

But that’s not the whole story.

All the talk about life insurance claims at the moment isn’t helping.

What this amounts to is a destabilisation of my Darling’s world. At a time when she should be enjoying a purple patch of delight over the news that our youngest is expecting a baby in late November (with any luck), I’m instead seeing a sadness in her eyes, along with a summer cold that seems to have come from nowhere.

I hope it’s only temporary, but I fear she won’t visit the doctor and give them a chance to help her.

Anima was useless for me yesterday. I submitted an enquiry about extending my last sick note and changing over to a fit note requesting three days at two hours a day. That shouldn’t be difficult, but it wasn’t dealt with yesterday.

Also, no one contacted me about my stay in hospital or arranged an appointment to discuss it, so tomorrow I’ll ask Anima for a doctor’s appointment with my favourite GP.

We shall see how that goes.

So that’s it.

I’ve got to stay ahead of the pain in my back and hope my Darling is able to rest today.

Yesterday was a big washing day, and now that it’s all done, we can relax together.

My Darling also did something nice and received something nice in return.

She booked the voucher from the kids for a slap-up dinner this Sunday, which will be lovely. A chance to dress up and be waited on. I can’t wait.

Last but not least is her personal number plate for the car.

We now have all the paperwork, so we can order the plates, have them fitted, update the insurance accordingly, and—boom!—she’ll have her highly glamorous car and plates.

That will cheer us up.

Good night.

Take care.

  • Great news - being back at work will bring you back into "daily" touch with your work colleagues even though it's only a few hours a week.

Let's hope it's only a hiccup and Mrs U is back to normal ASAP.

  • Pleased to hear you are working again, I am sure you will enjoy it. A lovely meal out and the new number plates will hopefully give your Darling a boost too. Hope she is feeling better soon.
