Post 1: Four days till chemo (11/4/25).

To Hop-on or hop-off is the question?

Four days to go. Am I bovered? Damn right I am.

My wife of 34 years (and 10 months), and our cat Stormy (who I’d gladly divorce), are currently unaware of this blog and my honest thoughts.

Me, I’m a long-serving mechanical engineer and reckon I can fix most things—and if I can’t, it’s probably broke beyond repair.

I feel like I’m not yet broke beyond repair, but the scary bit is that someone else is doing the tinkering. Which fills me with dread. But I’m a positive kind of guy, and this blog thing will help me concentrate on the practical side of this treatment, not the emotional and painful bit.

Today I’ve had a good day. The sun was warm and the café breakfast proper tasty.

With four days to go, notional lists are appearing in my mind: what to eat, how to avoid hair loss, how to deal with relatives that want to help, and friends asking for something to do—all the while, foreheads are wrinkling and eyes are watering.

I wanted to do this on my own, ably assisted by my darling wife, but the word has got out and spread like the bloomin’ Covid virus. It’s all a bit much for a simple “lad” like me.

I’m still on the bus, and promise not to hop off just yet.

To Hop-on or Hop-off is the question?
