Head Mask for Radiotherapy

Less than one minute read time.
Hi everyone, Tomorrow im going to have the first of three sessions to make my head shield in readiness for my radiotherapy. I have long hair and dont want to have it cut at the moment, has anyone else undertaken this with long hair???? I am aware i could loose some hair during treatment but i want to wait and see where and how much before i have a restyle! Thank you! Jill

    Hi,

I had radiotherapy on my upper jaw utilising a head mask. I did lose some hair which was at the back opposite to where the dose was directed.

A dead straight line across and down which wasn't really detected until I went for a haircut. It was worth the hair loss for the look on the hairdresser's face! Which was even better when I insisted on the back mirror so I could see how it was cut.

You have to take the laughs where you can get them, sometimes at the expense of others, but not maliciously.

Good luck with treatment and stay strong.
