Another operation!

1 minute read time.

My husband went to the hospital today for a check up as he had started his new (fifth) chemo ten days ago.  In the meantime he had got an excrutiating pain in his groin, had an ultrasound and this was reported back to the Prof.

It appears it is a hernia, maybe caused by the abdominal tumour growing and pushing against internal organs.  Hubby needs an immediate operation.  He is self-employed and argued about finishing his job which ends on 2 March, but the Prof advised against this, as the bowel or tumour may push through the hernia opening and complicate matters, so hubby reluctantly agreed to try to sort things out so he can have the operation next Tuesday, then he will be off work for a minimum of 3 weeks.

In the meantime, his dosage of his new chemo has been upped to 100% as before he was on 75% to make sure he could tolerate it well.  But again this hernia has complicated matters, as hubby has to stop the chemo for 7 days before the op and about 3 days afterwards, so the chances of seeing any results from the meds before the middle of March are slim.

Hubby is so tired, sweating so much his bedding is absolutely ringing wet each morning, but with no temperature.  Then he is either very cold or opening a window to cool down, as though he cannot control his body temperature.  He has just about enough energy to get up in the morning, then has a cup of tea, takes his medication (11 tablets in all), then sits on a chair and sleeps, and sleeps and sleeps.

He has lost so much weight and looks so ill, I am heartbroken.  I can only hope that once this hernia is fixed he may get some energy back as the pain from that is crippling.

So another fight, albeit a new one and a relatively common one, but coupled with the cancer just as worrying, and it seems to go on, and on without any respite.
